Pub News September 2009 - the early Autumn edition!

Compiled by Nigel Sadler, our Pub Liaison Officer.

I hope that youve all enjoyed the marvellous summer weve had and are now looking forward to the Autumn months which herald the arrival of the darker and more fulsome ales.

Having said that the August Bank Holiday weekend was a fine finish to summer and there were many festivals on that were well worth visiting.

I kick off this newsletter with the announcement of 2 more award winners in our inaugural Best Local Food Pub and Best Local Family Pub categories and they are: The White Hart, Margaretting Tye and The Six Bells, at Boreham respectively. Congratulations to them and we will be arranging informal presentations of certificates during our Local Pubs Week (see below)

Its hope that these awards will become an annual and theyre also a way of encouraging branch members to get more involved vis a vis marking and voting.

LOCAL PUBS WEEK

This is a CAMRA initiative to encourage members and non-members alike to support their local pub. We as a branch have nominated the week beginning 21st September as our Local Pubs Week and free packs are on their way to licensees to advertise events etc. As I have mentioned many times before the local pub is in danger of being lost in many areas and like the Post Offices they do provide a valuable asset to community life. Please do your bit by nipping to your pub and having a pint or two!
